Found Sound by GAINES.

New York, NY – Imagine the sound of something existing. The frequency of an object simply existing, possibly wishing it was something other than what it is, doing something more that it’s maker intended, to be judged as more than what simply meets the eye. Convinced that everything has a sound, multimedia artist duo, GAINES, Latham and Shelby, ignore the often too rigid line between fine, visual, performance, representational and musical art.

GAINES transforms otherwise inanimate objects ranging from broom to chair to a vintage doctor’s bag into beings with a story and a soundtrack for thier lives, so to speak.

Each of the one of a kind pieces in this series functions as sculpture and musical instrument, complete with amp which GAINES will “play” on opening night.

FOUND SOUND, a debut collection for GAINES is curated by Sharoz Makarechi, and will be on exhibit and available to private collectors for the first time in New York City at Think Tank 3, beginning December, 11 2007.

Exhibit Location: Think Tank 3 447 Hudson Street, NYC 10014
Artist Reception: December 11th 7:00pm
Gallery Open to Public: 10-6 PM (Monday-Friday)
