STONE RIDGE ORCHARD
Local sustainable agriculture just plain makes sense. And at this point in our collective history, there's enough information and environmental consciousness that people at least want to make the right choices about the foods they eat or at least know what they're getting. We started out with a design assignment and ended up rebranding, positioning, and driving sales of products for this 200 year old orchard. We switched the look of the communication materials and packaging to a representative modern one, and trademarked a positioning that's taking on a life of it's own in the much larger food and agricultural community: KNOW YOUR ROOTS is more that the tagline for Stone Ridge Orchard, it's a mantra and influential chefs and better food marketers are taking note. Since we began, SRO products, including apples, berries, and a line of premium ciders have been picked up by all the Whole Foods in the city as well as Balducci's, Citarella, and restaurants including Blue Ribbon Bakery, Craft, Union Square Cafe, and the venerable Gramercy Park Tavern where the blog we started to give the SRO's president and chief pomologist, a voice has become a required reading as part of the staff's training. The blog brings valuable truths to the proverbial table by debunking the myth of "organic" in favor of sustainable local agriculture. What's it called? Organic Schmorganic. But of course.
