| Thought
for Food is the intersection of ART and LITERATURE. Paintings
by a writer. Ilana Simons paints portraits of literary influences,
philosophers, and geniuses of generations past in acrylic
on PAPER PLATES. But that's not all. She writes. In fact she's
a writer first, with a PhD in English and a teaching post
at The New School in New York City. Join us for her debut
as a modern day artist.
Ilana Simons will read for the first time from her first book at Think Tank 3 on August 15, 2007 at 7PM.
Her book, A Life of One's Own: A Guide to Better Living through the Work and
Wisdom of Virginia Woolf will be released by Penguin publishing
on August 28.
Artist Statement:
Virginia Woolf never went to college, but she was desperate to engage with the old minds we call Geniuses. So she read all day in her bedroom and produced some fantastically unconventional novels.
Woolf shows that to turn "Grand Ideas" to use, we've got to find our own personal hooks-our real, sensual attachments. My portraits of philosophers on paper plates and my book, are parallel projects in Woolf's spirit: to find the palatable in otherwise-intimidating minds.

Think
Tank 3 is A MODERN DAY THINK SHOP; our idea of what
a modern ad agency should be. We work with clients including
Comedy Central, The Coca Cola Company, and TiVo out
of a storefront in NYC where our creative director curates
exhibits based on cultural relevance, historical value,
and quality. Our last exhibit, JEWISH BOXERS, oil paintings of Jewish boxers who dominated the sport from 1910-1940 by Charles Miller, was shortlisted in The New Yorker.
